Planning Team Acts for SNH in Windfarm Inquiry
David and Louise Cockburn of the firm's planning department have just returned from inquiries in which they acted for Scottish Natural Heritage in respect of two related windfarm proposals, which, if successful, would see the development of 232 turbines (each of a height of 125 metres) located in the M74 corridor. This is the largest onshore proposal so far in the United Kingdom and the inquiries lasted for more than 10 weeks.
For more than 10 years the planning team at Archibald Campbell & Harley has acted for Scottish Natural Heritage in many planning inquiries involving windfarm developments, often in relation to bird species protected under European legislation. In recent times the number and scale of windfarm proposals have increased exponentially, driven by Scottish Executive policy itself fuelled by climate change worries. This has led to concerns about the cumulative effect of these developments on the landscape.
2007 is likely to be even busier for the team with further important windfarm proposals likely to come to inquiry as is the proposal for the Beauly-Denny inter-connector to enable such proposals to access the grid.
