Private Client

The law governing inheritance and trusts is a hugely complicated area requiring specialist advice. Our private client team is well versed in the intricacies of this area of law and will ensure that your interests are looked after at every stage, be it planning for marriage/co-habitation, investing for children, minimising your tax burden or planning for your retirement. We provide a personal and sensitive service with advice that is tailored to your situation.

Please be aware that Scottish law is different from English law and we can only advise you if you live in Scotland or have property or other assets in Scotland.

Powers of attorney

Sometimes, you may need somebody to act on your behalf. It could also be you need the authority to act on behalf of somebody who is no longer capable of acting for themselves. Whether well-planned or an emergency situation, we can advise you on, and put in place, the appropriate powers. We're also experienced at administering the affairs of clients under Power of Attorney, including the maintenance of accurate records and prompt accounting for income and expenditure.

Trusts

Trusts can be very useful for tax-planning purposes - they can be used both to minimise tax and to obtain tax relief. They can also be used to attach conditions to your estate and redistribute assets within the family. We are experienced at establishing and managing trusts and winding up those that have come to a natural end. We also handle on-going administration and annual accounts for all kinds of trusts.

Wills

A will, in the proper legal form, is the only way to ensure that your property, money and other assets are disposed of as you would like and in a tax-advantageous way. If there is a change in your circumstances - marriage, children, family break-up - you should review your will so that it takes account of the changes. Before drawing up a will, draw up a list of all your assets and think about who are your beneficiaries and who you would like to administer your estate. We will ensure that your wishes for the distribution of your assets after your death are properly expressed.

Executries

We are experienced at winding up estates of all sizes and we do it sensitively, recognising that this is a difficult time. We are also experienced in dealing with post-death planning using Variations.

When things go wrong

Sadly, accidents sometimes happen, families break up or plans fall apart. We can help in difficult circumstances, such as dealing with personal injury claims, divorce and provision for children, property problems or disputes with neighbours. We have the knowledge and commitment to support you efficiently and effectively, constantly monitoring performance and results at dedicated partner level to ensure the best possible service provision for you wherever it is needed - on request, on time and on budget.
